Bertschi School Continues to Walk the Talk with their new GreenTouchscreen Kiosk
Ames, IA - For over 30 years Bertschi School has been committed to teaching children about environmental responsibility and global sustainability. The educators at Bertschi believe it is important to “walk the talk” – to model the values and perspectives that they would like their students to embrace – and that is exactly what they have done by achieving LEED® Gold Certification from the USGBC (US Green Building Council). In order to showcase their accomplishments and teach others how they can make an impact as well, Bertschi School called upon Quality Attributes Software (QAS) to create a distinctive and innovative GreenTouchscreen® interactive kiosk.
The educational GreenTouchscreen® kiosk is an interactive teaching tool not just for the students, but also for the staff and visitors of all ages. By providing dynamic graphics, animations and text in a friendly and easy to use kiosk, the Bertschi School is able to educate users about the building’s efficient systems and many “green” elements of the building that might otherwise go unnoticed. With a touch of the screen, kiosk users can learn all about LEED® Certification and the importance of the facility’s 41 LEED® credits.
The GreenTouchscreen® kiosk uses interactive and automated graphics and text to demonstrate the facility’s key “green” components such as their use of solar panels to provide energy, natural ventilation to cool the building and the retention of rainwater for reuse. Along with an explanation of these systems, students can use the kiosk to track real time data and compare it with historical data. By providing information and explanations about how these systems work and how individual actions can have an impact on the immediate world, the kiosk becomes an engaging and effective teaching tool for the children.
